Fiancé(e) Visa Applications

Are you in a relationship with a British citizen or somebody that has a settled status in the UK? Are you a non-EEA national? Do you wish to get married in the UK? If so, you will need to apply for a fiancé, fiancée/proposed civil partner visa.

In order to apply for this visa, you must prove the following:

​

• You and your fiancé(e) or proposed civil partner is over the age of 18

• You have been in a relationship for at least 2 years when you make your application

• Any previous marriages/civil partnerships have officially ended

• You intend to marry or become civil partners within 6 months of arriving in the UK

• ​

On this visa, you can stay in the UK for up to 6 months and then you can extend your visa through a Spouse visa application.

After your marriage has taken place, you can apply for Leave to Remain as a partner and once you have received this visa, you may be eligible to apply for Further Leave to Remain beyond the 6-month period of the fiancé(e) visa. After you have completed 60 months of lawful limited leave as a partner, you’ll be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain – 12 months following this, you will be allowed to apply for Naturalisation.

After your marriage and you have changed your Fiancé(e) visa to a Spouse visa, you will be authorised to work and hold the same rights as your spouse in the UK. In addition to this, any dependents under the age of 18 will be allowed to enter the UK as a dependent on the Spouse visa application.
